Step 2: Transcripts

High School Transcripts

High school transcripts are required unless the following circumstances apply to you. You are exempt from submitting high school transcripts if you are applying to the following institutions and meet the following requirements:

  • UW-Extension and UW-Stout: If you have your bachelor’s degree.
  • UW-Superior: If you have your associate degree or 60 or more transferable credits.
  • UW-Green Bay: If you have 15 or more transferable credits completed at the time you do your application.
  • UW-La Crosse: If you have earned 60 or more transferable credits.
  • UW-River Falls: If you have 24 or more credits.
  • UW-Oshkosh: If you have 30 or more transferable credits.

To request your official high school transcript, simply contact your high school or go to the high school’s website to have an official transcript sent directly to the UW university you want to transfer to.

College/University Transcripts

Please have your current college/university send your official transcript to the UW university you’re applying to. Also send official college/university transcripts from any other campuses you have attended in the past.

Step 3: Test Scores

You’ll be notified if any standardized test scores are needed to complete your application.

Step 4: Application Fee

The following UW universities charge an application fee for: UW-Eau Claire ($25), UW-La Crosse ($25), and UW-Madison ($80).

For the other UW universities, there is no application fee.

An application fee isn’t required if you’re transferring from one UW campus to another UW campus as a degree-seeking student within a 12-month time frame. Also, UW campuses will continue to accept self-reported financial needs-based application fee waivers.

For domestic applicants, if you are concerned about paying application fees, please note your financial hardship on the personal information section of the application to apply for an application fee waiver. You can also submit a

to the UW you are seeking admission to.

Students who are admitted as a new freshman at a UW university receive “guaranteed” admission to any other UW university as a junior by participating in the UW System Guaranteed Transfer Admission Program. After fulfilling certain credit and grade point average requirements, students transfer with the same rights and privileges as those who begin their education pursuing a degree at that UW university. Students are encouraged to contact the UW university to which they intend to transfer for more information on the Guaranteed Transfer Admission Program as early as possible to begin planning for transfer.

Requirements:

  1. Student must be admitted as a new freshman in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program at a UW university and be enrolled in that program at the time they submit a transfer application.
  2. Students must complete the number of credits required for junior status at the UW university they intend to transfer to with a minimum grade point average of 2.0; or 3.0 for UW-Madison. The UW university may make exceptions to the required number of credits for those majors/programs for which early transfer is recommended.
  3. Students have three academic years from the time of enrolling in the associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in which to complete the minimum credits required.]
  4. Transfer G.P.A.s are calculated using the formula/method of the receiving UW university.
  5. Each UW university has unique application deadlines, admission criteria, and admission procedures to which all transfer students must adhere. Students must apply to the intended UW university and must meet the same criteria (e.g., GPA, course requirements, etc.) for admission to specific majors/programs as continuing students. The Guaranteed Transfer Admission Program guarantees admission to the UW university only and not to the specific program or major.

Transfer GPAs are calculated using the formula/method of the four-year institution. Please consult the university website for more details.

Students are encouraged to contact their receiving university for more information on the Guaranteed Transfer Admission Program as early as possible to begin planning for transfer. Students can take several steps to make it more likely that they will be admitted as a transfer student.
